“Stravinsky” Comfort Double Room
Comfort Double room with a private bathroom.
“– Maestro, how do you compose music? What are you thinking about during that time?
– I’m sorry, madam, but I probably get to do it only because when I compose music, I think about music and nothing else…”
Igor Stravinsky is the legendary composer who has revolutionized the music of the Silver Age. He was special because of his extraordinary individualism; it’s like there were no stylistic models for him. Stravinsky used to say that his music seemed to develop itself, and the most important thing to do is to listen to the surrounding sounds. Stravinsky’s hometown, St. Petersburg, has become a symphony for him in that sense. Clatter of hoofs on the pavement, the wheels creaking, the whips clicking, the merchants shouting, the bells ringing – for the composer all that was music.
In his youth, Stravinsky had already belonged to the highest circles of artistic intellectuals of St. Petersburg, where he became friends with Sergei Diaghilev. Diaghilev became his patron and helped the young composer to begin his brilliant career. Also, Rimsky-Korsakov’s advice and guidance allowed Stravinsky to master the difficult technique of music writing skill.
“Petrushka”, “The Firebird”, “The Rite of Spring” – these works reflect different periods of Stravinsky’s formation as a professional, and “The Rite of Spring” has marked the beginning of a new era in the music industry. The composer used unique harmonies, irregular rhythms and intricate techniques.
The Second World War has forced Stravinsky to move to the United States, where, he continued his innovative work, in spite of all the hardships of life. Stravinsky was magnificently educated: he was interested in philosophy, religion, psychology, history, and even math!
The “Requiem Canticles” has become the composer’s last piece of music, written at the age of 84; it has absorbed all the artistic experience of Stravinsky. Five years later, he died.
